Hi Emily
Yes, that is so exciting...
This is from the register of baptism of the Parish of S. Maria Maggiore in Novara, for the year 1856, #134
The year of our Lord, 1856, on 15 June, in the Parish of the Church of S. Maria Maggiore, of the Comune of Novara, at 3 PM was presented an infant of female sex, born on 15 of June 1856 at 2 AM to
Gaudenzo Ravetta, son of deceased Giovanni, profession - varnisher (probably of paintings, frescoes), born and residing in Novara
and to Angela Clerici, daughter of living Luigi, profession - teacher, born and residing in Novara.
The child was given in baptism the name Rita Teresa Maria.
Godfather was Ignazio Ravetta, merchant
Godmother was Teresa Clerici

Thank you so so much This is so interesting!!!
Do you know what a varnisher would have done? Perhaps someone who would seal paintings?
Thanks so much for your help

That's my "educated" guess... a finisher for paintings, frescoes, murals, etc.signoretti wrote:T ~

Emily do you have a copy of the letter you sent the church and how long did it take you to get it back and did you send a donation to the church or did they charge for it. I think this is great and this info would help people with extracting records from the church.
Thank You very very much!!!

Hello Marty
Here are some resources for requesting church records.
And yes, a donation is strongly suggested...

Emily,
That is so exciting! May I ask if you will publish the address that you used for the Dioces in Novara? The reason I ask is that my Great Grandparents were married (I believe) in Novara and at least 2 of their children were born there in and around the 1860's---and I am having trouble finding information on them! Hey--maybe your Great Grandparents and my Great Grandparents were neighbors!
