Help with handwriting of name

Postby bottino » 07 Dec 2010, 14:53

Could someone please give me the exact spelling of the name in this entry.
I am seeing maybe Geiliclosii. But I am really not sure or familiar with that name. I have seen it several times, the handwriting is always the same, and I still am not sure of it.
Thank you
Paul

Possibly Gulielmus - a Latin variation for William

I would say it is the other way round: William is a variation of Gulielmus :lol:

Actually, Livio, what I was trying to say is that there are other spellings in Latin for the first name William as follows:

Guglielmus, Gulielmus, Guilhelmus, Gulielmo, Gulielmum = William

Aloisius = Aloysius, Louis, Luis
Aloysius = Aloysius or Lewis

Those were in Latin. In Italian, Aloysio

In italian the most common form of the latin name Aloysius is Luigi.
Guglielmo has german origins and it's not present in the classic latin, but it arrived in Italy in the Middle Ages and it has various spellings (like Maestra said).

Thanks again. It's clear I don't know enough about gender endings.
