Antonia Maria Paciello was born on 2 December 1899
to Maria Francesca Patrone, peasant farmer, and her husband Paolo Paciello, peasant farmer.
the midwife, Vittoria Tancredi, 70, made the declaration and presented the child at the town hall on 3 December 1899.
The midwife make the presentation because the father was far away.
Witnesses:
Canio Laurmana, 40, farmer
Rocco Labatella (sp?), 40, farmer

Hi T
Rocco's surname is Sabatella (also current surname in the town of Pignola)

I also think the surname for the witness Canio is Laurenzana

Can you read the words after the word perche and before the word Letto. I am trying to figure out the reason why the father was absent and couldn't make the presentation of the infant.
Thanks

This record doesn't say he was in America. I am having trouble deciphering the words after the word perche-looks like "sotto le (aruzio???)" I just can't decipher that last word correctly at all. I will continue to try to figure this out, if someone else doesn't do so sooner. Normally these records say he (the father) was absent because he was far from the city, but this record doesn't say that.

I believe the reason the husband wasn't present was because he was "sotto le armi" -- in the army.

I think you're correct, Mary. The j is actually an i and what follows that is probably a period for the end of the sentence. Good work.

No I can't...that's why I didn't give a reason...just that he was far away
