I believe this is correct.

this photograph is your nephew Antonio that I ? want a lot to know me. I find again (meaning him) in Switzerland

I was born Oct 27, 1919 in Frigento (Potenza?)-not sure if the P stands for Potenza and if the town was once part of that province

dated Oct 27, 1930 in Avellino Italy

The Italian is very poor and a word by word translation does not make sense.

This photograph is of me, your nephew (or grandson) Antonio, and I would like to know you. I am still in Switzerland. I was born in Frigento P(rovince of) Avellino on Oct 27 1930

I read this before work and puzzled it on my way to the office. It wouldn't make sense for him to have dated the photo 1930 - not only because of the clothes - but the fact that it's in color....

My great aunt found this photo in a shoebox one night when i was hounding her for information. I'm not sure if the photo was sent directly to her - or if she got it while visiting her uncles in Italy. So now i have to start guessing who he might belong to.

Thanks to you both!

Livio
what is the first date (the Oct 27, 1919) if 1930 is the year of birth?

Peg,

I don't think the first date is Oct. 27, 1919...it is actually the same date as below Oct., 27, 1930, but the last two numbers in the year are cut off. You can actually see a bit of the "3." :-)

Peg, you got the correct answer from T. :)
Also the ending of the word "acconoscer.." was cut off and I believe it is "acconoscerti".

Thanks, Livio.

I hadn't noticed that the same year was repeated, so I was happy when T saw that. I also knew there had to be a pronoun after the infinitive, since it didn't end in an e. At first I saw a period there and thought the mi went with trovo, making it reflexive (I find myself). Then I changed my mind and put it with the infinitive because I didn't see the ti or another pronoun after it.

Anyway, I always appreciate your corrections. Some translations are difficult for us non-native speakers, as you know.

Thanks again.
