Where is name of mother's parent

Post by JOHN08 »

I have found the birth record of my grandfather, Antonio Mizii. Also, the names of my great-grandparents: Elina Ferrante and Giovanni Mizii. My great-great-grandfather is noted: Bernard Mizii.

I cannot find any reference to Elina's father.

I have attached a portion of the birth record that pertains to Elina. Have I missed her father's name?

Thanks for any help.

The parents of Elena Ferrante are not mentioned.

Please note the correct spelling

John, just curious to know the approximate year and place of this birth?

I think many of us have found records dating from the 1830's and earlier are often missing father's names (they are often "ignoto" - unknown). In this case, while Antonio's parents are known, it is possible that Elena's father was not recorded at the time of her birth.

Several explanations have been put forth for this, including the refusal of comuni to recognize marriages perfromed in the church but not registerd in the civil office, not uncommon at that time.

Carmine, in this record the mother's parents are missing.

The baby was born
"da Elena Ferrante sua moglie di anni ventisette domiciliata in Atri e da esso dichiarante"
the father is Elena's husband and is the person that is declaring the birth...
