What is the date on this Marriage?

Postby Irishinamerica » 12 Mar 2011, 17:42

Hello,

I believe that it says the date was in October 1868. But what I'm debating is whether it says Oct 10th 1868 or Oct 8th 1868.

This is a marriage between Giuseppe Rolle (of Giacomo) and a Catterina Maria Rostagno (of Bartolomeo).

Also what kind of document is this? The microfilm said these were pubblicazioni di matrimonio; but I'm thinking this is actually the atti di matrimonio.

It's October 10 1868 and it is a request (promise) of marriage - Pubblicazioni di matrimonio

Thank you!

OK - so that date would not be the actual date of the marriage?

I have ordered another microfilm which has the Atti di Matrimoni for the same time period.

This pubblicazioni is 3 pages and I cannot read most of it, but whoever wrote it had some fancy hand writing - as you can see from just this small section of the pubblicazioni. And there's also a lot of bleed through - so hopefully the actualy Atti di Matrimoni will be in better shape!

On the left side of the document you may have the 3 dates when the banns were posted, the marriage date should few days after the last banns' date.

I just at them again and that date is the only date that appears on the left hand side. On the right hand side of each page is a circular stamp.

The entire bann is written in a journal and is entirely hand written. Could it be possible that the other dates are on the individual pages within the text?

In going through these microfilms, I've noticed that in the early 1870s all documents seem to forms to fill out rather than being hand written.

Again, without seeing the whole document is difficult to give a 110% correct answer..

Any idea how I could post it? The individual pages are too large for imageshack. And I have tried emailing it to family members who are curious and the pages are too large for email.

Each page is about 26 megabytes.

You can try to resize them...
You may also google "send big files" to find a way to send them by email...

liviomoreno,

I cut the margins off in order to post the document. On page 1 there is the notation from the previous post, and on page 2 the left hand margin is totally blank - however there is a official stamp on the right hand side.
On the 3rd page there is another notation on the left column identifying the couple the bann is about...but not a date or a numero.

Page 1

It starts after the name 'Marietti' which I assume is the name of someone from the Stato Civile. And I think that I may be related to that official as the name Marietti also appears several times in my family.

They are quite difficult to read! By the way I can confirm that they are a request for banns. The dates of the actual posting are at the end of the 3rd page, and the first date is October 11, which is Sunday. The second is October 18...
