Baptism translation Carlo

Postby fairhilleng » 31 Mar 2011, 20:17

I would appreciate translation assistance for the baptism record of Carlo Retagliata from Rovegno- link to image:

1. Date: Year 1803? November, day ? Is this the baptism day? Is the date of birth noted?
2. Father: Jo Bapta? Retagliata son of Antonius (Antonio) son of Jo Bapta (Giovanni ? or Giam? Battista). Are they living or not?
3. Mother: Maria ? ? daughter of Antonio living or not?
4. What else does the document note?

Thank you for your assistance

Thank you. Would someone be able to look at this again for my other questions?
It looks like the child's name is Carlo Maria Retagliata. I've seen Maria as a middle name for males several times now. Is this common? Would it be translated from latin into Mario? Any additional help would be appreciated.

Carlo Maria Retagliata
1. Date: Year 1803 November, day 3. Is this the baptism day? Yes. Is the date of birth noted? Can't read it
2. Father: Giovanni Battista Retagliata son of Antonio (living) son of the deceased Giovanni Battista.
3. Mother: Maria Serrani daughter of Bernardo (living) son of the deceased Antonio
4. What else does the document note? Godparents: Antonio Maria Connio(?) son of the deceased Andrea and his wife, Can't read the name

Maria was often added as second or third name to males. It was in honour of the Virgin Maria.

"natum sub hesternam vesperam" = "nato ieri all'ora del vespro" = "born yesterday in the evening"
