Need help identifying a church

Post by tbehler »

Hi Everyone...

I am totally unable to figure out the Palermo church my great great grandparents were married in, as identified in their Atto della Solenne Promessa di Celebrare il Matrimonio. I cannot even determine if the church name in question is one word or two. It looks to me as if it might be two words, with the first word being "della" ["of the"?]. But I can't be sure. Can anyone make out this "Parroco" name?

P.S. In an Atto di Nascita for one of their children, the Parroco name was "della Tartari" and I was able to find a church in the Albergharia Palermo district where they lived called "S.Giovanni dei Tartari". So maybe the church name for their marriage is abbreviated or shortened.

Molto grazie!

Hi,
the image is referred to the wedding or to the "atto di nascita"? the image is truncated and is not clear. Take a look to the great site of Hugh Tornabene "http://sites.google.com/site/palermomarriages/". You'll find EVERY marriage in Palermo 1820-1895 .

greetings.
I'm searching lost relatives and descendant of my greatgrandfather Vincenzo Genualdi (or Gennaldi or Genuardi) and my greatgrandmother Concetta Davola (their sons: Angela, Carmela, Antonio, Bartolomeo, Ernesto, Simone, Riccardo, Maria) went in Chicago,Ill., and New Orleans, in 1880-1920 from Sicily. Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).

Hi...

The image I posted is the upper right hand corner of page 1 of my great great grandparent's marriage Atto. The Atto di Nascita I refered to (for their daughter) is not posted here.

I have seen Hugh's web site (it's wonderful!) but I've never found a picture of anyone's complete marriage Atto on it.

The marriage Atto image at the link below is from a film I obtained from the Latter Day Saints Family History Library.

But you're right; in the image I originally posted, the Parroco name was slightly truncated at the bottom. So I have copied and pasted a new version of it to ImageShack; it's at the link below.

Can you, or anyone, figure out what that name is?

Thanks!

Is there any reason why you cannot post the entire page?

When we try to decipher handwriting on these documents, it is always helpful to see the entire page in order to compare strokes and letter formation... :-)

Ahh...I should have thought of that.

Here are all four pages of the Atto:

Thanks for posting the images... it always helps!

However, when comparing to the other script, my guess would be that it just says "della Chiesa" - with the "s" written with the long tail, and the end of the word finished with a looped flourish... (see the "s" in "sudetto" further down the column)

I have searched for churches in the area of Sant'Agata, and Sant'Oliva (the frazione listed as place of residence of the bride)in Province of Palermo, but found nothing that I could say might provide the letter formations...

I'm sure there will be many others here who will take a look and offer their educated opinions :-)

Hi,
like Tessa wrote it seems "dellaChiesa" without the name of the church. I have searched for churches but i can't find nothing. It's very strange : it is the first time i see an "Atto" without the name of the church, I'm sorry.

regards.

If you found this record in the LDS microfilms, you might try looking at the records before and after to see if the writing is any clearer :?

Hey, you guys, thanks...

This is so curious. They are married in simply "the church"?

Giacomo and Rosalia's first child Antonina was baptised at "S. Nicolo" (San Nicolò all'Albergheria?) and recorded at the Palermo sezione of Santa Christina. And they appeared to be living in "Albergheria". Their next child Francesca Paola was baptised at "della Tartari" (S. Giovanni dei Tartari?) and they lived at/on "Via Schiavuzzo" in sezione Sant'Agata, where the civil record was also recorded. The birth of their next child, my great grandfather Giuseppe, was recorded in the sezione of Zisa, per a Stato Civile index record. Their next child Calcedonio's birth was recorded in the sezione of Mezz.Oreto. Finally, for Giovanni Battista and then, Angelina, they were back at Sant'Agata again.

They sure seemed to move around a lot! :?
