Unknown document...

Postby eguillorn » 04 Nov 2011, 21:14

Does anybody know what this document is? I think it states that in 1897 Francesco Di Girolamo was born to Tommaso and Incoronata Miticocchio in San Giacomo. But it is dated 1911, almost 10 years after they were living in the US, so I'm not sure what it's purpose is. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

It looks like a birth extract from the town. May have been requested for work, etc.
In fact it looks like it says "lavoro"

I read it as Francesco Di Girolamo son of Tommaso, and of Incoronata Miticocchio.
Born 28th of May 1897. Record listed in the registers of birth in San Giacomo in Part I #23.

Thank you, Tessa. I did recently find his birth record. This was a document found by his brother's granddaughter. Family stories tell that he died during WW 1 of Spanish influenza, but I've been unable to verify this yet. But names have changed so drastically, I'm having a hard time with it. I wonder what kind of 'work' he needed this for - the other siblings all were coal miners.

Thanks again for verifying what we had thought!

Not unheard of for 14 year olds to be working in the mines at that time :-(

Don't know if this is relevant...
