Rosario Incognito - Death Record

Postby ItalianbellaSA » 06 May 2012, 22:30

I found the death record for my maternal great-grandfather, [b]Rosario Incognito.[b] I am asking, please, for someone to translate this record for me - giving as much detail as possible. I have been searching for information about his death, as my Mother told me that he was killed by a bull in Sicily. His wife, my great-grandmother, is Carmella Cappadona and she immigrated to the U.S. as a widow in 1913 with her daughter (my grandmother), Maria Incognito.

I thank you in advance for your time to translate this record for me.

Rosario Incognito - Number 245.
It is hoped that the research I am doing helps to discover, preserve and celebrate my family history.

Hello Sue,

Let me begin by telling you that Italian death records do not usually list the cause of death. Sometimes you see the cause of death for someone killed in the war, or in a death that occurred in another country and the certificate sent to the comune to be recorded. There is NO cause of death for Rosario in this record...

Translation:
Record #245
Rosario Incognito
On 22 December 1900 at 10:30 Am at the town office in Patti, appearing before the official were Nunzio Cottone, age 31, peasant farmer; and Salvatore Cottone, age 28, peasant farmer, to declare that at the 14th hour (2 PM) yesterday (21st) at the place at Contrada ????, died Rosario Incognito, age 44, peasant farmer, residing in Patti, born in Gioiosa Marea, to parents unknown; he was husband of Carmela Cappodona.
Witnesses to the recording of this record were Gaetano Lamonica, age 63, grave digger ; and Filippo De Luca, age 48, grave digger.
The declarants signed this act with me (the official) and the witnesses did not sign because they were illiterate.

T.
