Hello Maryann :-)

The marriage certificate is from the Church of St. Nicholas of Tolentine on 9th St., in Philadelphia, PA

Translation:
I the undersigned declare that on 3 October 1921 in Philadelphia, PA, I united in legal marriage according to the laws of the Holy Roman Church and the State of Pennsylvania, USA.

Giliberto Scutti
of Altino (Chieti)
son of Antonio [Scutti] and Clementina Parrenti
AND
Aida Gentile
of Faro San Martino (Chieti)
daughter of Giuseppe [Gentile] and of Uforia(?) Gentile

Was witnessed by:
Nicola Varrenti
Fioretta Varrenti

Signed: Ralberto(sp?) Spina, OSA (probably Order of St. Anthony, I think)
Registered in Volume 192(?), page 436
3 October 1921

Hope this helps :-)

T.

The second document looks like a request to postpone his military service because he needs to go abroad to North America (Philadelphia) and cannot personally take the enlistment at this time. I'm hoping someone else here at the forum can give you more detail...

Date is 3 August 1913 in District of Lanciano.
First part is the official identifying himself...

At "è comparso" - appeared Giliberto Scutti, son of Antonio and of the the living Clemente Varrenti, born in Altino on day 4 June 1895 (the year is hard to read)

The interesting information is in the left column. It is a description of Giliberto... :-)
Heght - 1.55 meters
Chest perimieter - 0.80 meters
Hair: Color - chestnut (brown)
Form - straight
Eyes: chestnut
Complexion - pale
Teeth - healthy
Eyebrows - chestnut
forehead - regular
nose - regular
chin - regular
Face - ?
No particular marks
Occupation - peasant farmer
Able to read - no
Able to write - no

Second page shows signatures of official, witnesses, and notation that Giliberto could not write so the official signed his name.

T.
