Qualiana, Rosalia Birth Record

Postby ItalianbellaSA » 29 Sep 2012, 22:14

Hi Everyone:

I have found my husband's paternal grandmother's birthrecord. Her name was Roslia Quagliana. I thought she might have been from Polizzi Generosa (where her husband was from) but from Ellis Island records I found someone by that name from Cerda, Sicily. Can someone please translate as much detail as possible. I would like the street address, date and parents names. #116 on the record.

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I am getting better at reading these documents, but I would just like what I read confirmed.

Hi Sue :D !

Record #116
Dated 9 June 1887 at 9 AM at the town hall
Appearing before the official was
Rosario Quagliana, age 50, farmer, residing in Cerda; to declare that at 2 PM on the 9th of the current month, at the place at Via Nicosia, no number, to Stefana D'Agostino, his wife living with him, was born a female child who he presented to the official and to whom was given the name ROSALIA.
Witness to the recording of this act were: Antonino Schifano, 33, grave digger; and Gaetano Zanghi, 40, grave digger.
The official read the act to all the participants and only he signed as the others were illiterate.

Tessa:

I just found a death record for a Salvatore Quagliana. This might be Rosalia's brother. I am hoping this document will give me additional information to help sort some pieces together. I think this is a different address from Via Nicosia. Also, is an age given for the Stefana D'Agostino?

Thanks.

Hey Sue!

No age for Stefana. Father, Rosario, is deceased.
Salvatore is age 15, and single.
Death occurred at 10(?)PM on the 2nd of July 1891 (recorded on 3rd)
Address is Via Guardini. Stefana may have relocated after Rosario's death.
Declarants were Calogero di Franco, 60, grave digger; and Gaetano Zanghi, 40, grave digger.
