Did Vitale Zampino have children by two different women?

Postby JRizzo » 28 Mar 2013, 03:58

Vitale Zampino and wife Anaetata(?) Madorra had two children: Domenicoantonio (b. 1819) and Anna Saveria (b. 1821). In 1824, Vitale Zampino was listed as the father on the birth record for Giuseppe Zampino and the mother was listed as Anaclita(?) Iapaolucci. Interestingly, there is a notation in the top margin of Giuseppe's birth record that mentions Anaetata(?) Madorra. I wonder why? Then in 1827, Vitale and Anaetata(?) Madorra had another child, a daughter named Lucia.

Isn't it odd that he would "separate" from his wife, father a child with another woman (with his name listed on the birth record of the presumably illegitimate child), and then have more children with his wife? Why would his wife's name be noted in the margin of the birth record of his illegitimate child? Something isn't making sense, can anyone offer an opinion on this one? Thanks!

I don't think the child was illegitimate. I think the notation across the top of Giuseppe's birth record is a correction that was made years after his birth concerning his mother's name listed in his birth record. Anacleta Madorra was his mother and not the person named in the record.

Con sentenza del tribunale civile di Campobasso del di 15 giugno 1868 (not sure about the year) fu ordinata la presente notata al riguardo del sottoscritto figlio dei coniugi Vitale Zampino ed Anaceleta Madorra.

By a judgment of the civil court of Campobasso, on the 15th of June 1868(?), the present annotation was ordered regarding the son named below of the spouses Vitale Zampino and Anacleta Madorra

Aaaaah! Thank you for the clarification, Erudita. Clearly there are limitations to my understanding of the Italian language so I am very grateful for your help with translation!
