this is the birth record for Maria Teresa Purcaro, born 1845. There is another child born to the same parents in 1850, also named Maria Teresa. I am assuming that the 1845 child died before the 1850 child was born, and she was then given the same name.
however, i cannot locate her death record. i have looked at all individual death records & the indexes for years 1845 - 1851 and I have been unsuccessful.
i do not see it, but is here any notation on this 1845 birth record that would indicate the child was still born?
at this time in history, were the records for a still born child recorded separately from the death records and entitled as some other publication rather than in atti di morte?
this is so frustrating, thanks,
donna

I've been trying since yesterday to decipher the word which comes after "dichiarato di dare alla" and before "il nome di," as this may be the clue. Any birth records I have seen for stillborn children normally have the words "senza vita" or "nato(a) morto" in the margin. In church records, the word pericolo (danger) appears if the infant is in danger of dying and someone like the midwife (who was authorized by the church) has to perform an emergency baptism. Even though the word in your document starts with the letter p, that is not the word I am seeing. I just can't seem to figure this one out. I don't believe it's the word fanciulla for young girl, which you sometimes find in documents.

thanks, e....i don't see any of the common phrases either..however the thought just occurred to me.....what would be the word / phrase for premature birth. yet, even if that was recorded on these records, i would assume that a death record would be established or the death noted on the record.

That hadn't crossed my mind, as I don't recall ever seeing that in any record in all the years I have done this kind of research. The word would be prematura in the feminine, so maybe it is a possibility. I do, however, recall seeing death records for fetuses.

erudita,
i think i might have figured it out....
a suggestion from a fellow researcher prompted me to look at other birth records from this same year. all other records show that the word is bambina / bambino. could this just be a case of terrible handwriting?
if this is the case, it still doesn't answer the question of where is the death record.

Even with you suggesting this possibility, Donna, I honestly still don't see it in this record.
