Interesting indeed and Soccorso is actually a surname but appears as the third of her first names, so I find that strange. Even though the parents were married, it is not one of their surnames either.

San Potito Ultra is where my father's cousin paternal family is from. the town is very small - about 30 births per year. I have seen many families use this Soccorso. as i track the nazzaro family, i will pay particular attention to it's use.

do you have any thoughts about why it might be used if, in fact, it is a surname other than recognizing a relative with that last name?

Hello,
la "Madonna del Soccorso" ("Our Lady of the Rescue") is the patron of San Potito Ultra, so that's why so many families gave such name to their babies.
