Translation Please

Postby oemorg » 16 Sep 2013, 22:44

These are the 5th and 6th processetti pages for Antonio Cataldo and Maria Rosa Romeo. Maria Rosa's parents are Domenico and Maria Teresa Greco. Can you tell me Maria Rosa's birth and/or baptism date please. All I see is Oct 1794. No need to translate the whole thing, unless you want to. If you see any other info of value please let me know.

Thanks,
Greg

What I understand is that there was no baptism act available for Maria Rosa, so various neighbours of her parents were asked to declare what thay knew about her (name, surname, date and place of birth and so on). They are listed on top of first page.
They also had to explain what circumstances led that to remember her date of birth; so, one remembers that a few months before she had had a child, another that her husband had died short before, and so on.
Date of birth is stated to be October 1794, and they also declare that she was baptized in the church of San Pietro.

Pippo,

I didn't understand why there were so many names on the record. Now I know why. The method used to declare her date of birth sounds like something they did before written language. Oct 1794 is accurate enough for me.

Thanks again for your help,
Greg
