This is a very very difficult document to decipher. For some reason, the 1896 records are with records that should only go to 1886.

The record is dated on Dec 26, 1896 in Barga, but the official there had received a request on Dec 24th from the official in Firenze, for the publications (banns of marriage) to be made in Barga. When individuals from different towns married, the banns of marriage had to be posted in both towns to insure that there were no impediments to the upcoming marriage.

Arturo was born and resident in Barga. He was of minor age. He was the son of Giuseppe, who was living and resident in Barga. His mother's name is Cesira Simonini. He was some kind of salesman, but I can't decipher the word referring to what he sold. He had never before been married. Piccarda Salati was born and resident in Firenze. She too had never before been married. I can't decipher her age. Her father was Ferdinando, and he was a resident in Firenze. The mother named Giovanna was deceased. I am having trouble deciphering her surname. It starts with No...

In the margin are the dates of the marriage publications in Barga. The first was on Dec 27, 1896 and the second was on Jan 3, 1897. Both were Sundays. The first was posted for a week and then was replaced by the second publication which was posted for three days. So, any time after Jan 6th, 1897, the couple could have married.

You're welcome, Michael. There is a surname in Firenze which is Nocera, but the name in the document appears to end in the letter i, so possibly this was the surname. I had considered Nocci, but I see an extra letter in the document. I am just throwing these surnames out as possibilities, but really don't know for sure.

By the way, this marriage would have probably taken place in Firenze, and not in Barga, as Firenze was the place of residence of the bride.

Piccarda's occupation seems to be teacher ("insegnante"), born in Camaiore (?), living in Firenze. Father was retired ("pensionato"), and mother's surname might be Nenci. The document states she was of major age, but does not say how old she was exactly. Arturo was a "commesso di commercio", that is, I think, he worked in a shop, but he was not its owner. I added Italian words for further check by someone else...

Maria Giulia Piccarda is age 30 in this record. She had been born in Camaiore. Her mother was deceased Giovanna Nenci
