Help with birth record paragraph

Postby nclark225 » 11 May 2014, 00:27

Hello, I've copied this paragraph from an Italian birth record, but Google Translate is giving me a jumbled translation. Could someone please help translate this to English?

('MANCINO is the wife's surname)

Witnesses to the above and to this act were Calogero Carruba, son of deceased Salvatore, aged 68, peasant farmer and Domenico Lara son of deceased Rosario, aged 24, sulfur miner, both residing in this Comune. The declarant has announced the above birth since he is the head of the family in the house where the MANCINO delivered the baby and because her husband could not announce the above birth since he was ill.
This act was read to the attendees and was signed only by me since the declarant and the witnesses said yo be illiterate.
