Sanity check on 1746 marriage

Postby cj11788 » 18 Jun 2014, 03:14

Hello,

On the below document it looks like the groom is Giuseppe Romeo where his parents are Ippolito and Rosa while his wife is Girolama Martorana. What I need to verify is what Dorothea is. Is that a deceased wife of Giuseppe from Palermo? I hope so.

Looks like the date is April 9 1746.

Thank you

Chris

The groom:Maestro Giuseppe Romeo` of the city of Monreale, living in the district(?) of Terra del Parco, legitimate and natural son of deceased Ippolito and deceased Rosa, who at one time, were spouses. He was the widower of Dorotea (viduus is the Latin word for widower and is sometimes abbreviated in the Latin church records). The bride, Girolama Martoranno was of Terra del Parco and the legitimate and natural daughter of deceased Antonino.

That's all I can decipher from this record, Chris.

Happy to help, Chris. BTW, after Dorotea's name it does say della citta di and then there is an abbreviation which starts Pal (no sure if that is then an o at the end, so possibly an abbreviation for Palermo, but I am not certain and don't want to mislead you.

I believe you are correct, it is Palermo.

I have family from this area as well, Monreale and Parco/Altofonte.
You may know this already, Parco is now known as Altofonte and there are records on-line at familysearch.
