Lamanna Marriage Doc

Postby labiancm » 21 Aug 2014, 21:57

Hello,

Would love some help in translating this doc for one of my ancestors - Michele Lamanna (I think, could be Lananna). I can't quite make out the parents' names for Michele and his wife Maria.

Thanks in advance,

The surname on this record is Lananna and is also a surname found in the town currently.

The left side of the record is the solemn promise to celebrate matrimony-it is dated May 1, 1836 at 10 P.M. in Bitetto.
The groom was Michele Lananna, of the adult age of 29, a peasant, born and residing in Bitetto on Strada Sant'Angelo. He was the son of Francesco (Lananna) who had died in Bitetto, and the son of living Vita Nicola de Marco, who was living in Bitetto. She was present to give her consent to the marriage. Michele was the widower of Clarice Grande who had died in Bitetto.
The bride was Maria Garofalo, age 23, who was born and living in Bitetto on Strada San Giovanni,. She was the daughter of Francesco Garofalo who was living with his daughter, and Anna Vasiro (sp?), who died in Bitetto. The marriage took place in the parish church of Bitetto on May 1st.

Here's the index where the names in the record may be easier to read-

Thanks! Maria's mother's name is tricky. Could it be Vescio? That seems to be a surname from Modugno. Here's another document (Maria's birth) that has the mother's name.

In the birth record, it looks like it could be Vescio, but in the index of the marriage record, it doesn't to me. I am looking at the way the letter c is formed in other entries in the marriage index and doing a comparison.

Ah ok. Looked for the surname Vasiro on www.avitrees.com and couldn't find it. Do you know if that is a name that is used in Italy? Thanks for your help

On the marriage record, at first glance I saw "Vezio", but I think it might be Vezzio. Both these surnames still appear in Italy but not in White Pages for Bitetto:

http://www.paginebianche.it/ricerca?l=en&qs=vezzio&dv=
http://www.paginebianche.it/somma-vesuv ... dbabb?l=en

Just adding: I've just looked at the Birth Record and there I read Vezzia?
