This record is for a Carmina, female-

Dated Feb 9, 1878 in Frigento at 8:10 a.m.
Appearing was Maria di Leo, age 70, midwife in Frigento. She reported that on the 9th of the current month, at 3:15 a.m., a female infant, being given the name Carmina Martone, was born to Rosaria Martone , in the house at #4 Contrada Chicocca Frascone. Rosaria Martone was the wife of Loreto Martone , both peasants in the town. Witnesses were Carmine Pelosi, age 29, and Pasquale Cirillo, age 28, carpenter, both town residents as well. The midwife made the presentation in place of the baby’s father, as he was incarcerated (imprisoned).

Thanks, Erudita (that was a typo in my subject line, it should have read Carmina, not Carmine)

Do you think Martone was Rosaria's maiden name?

In the period from 1700 to 1900 birth records recorded the names of the father and mother Among other facts. Not knowing this I am unable to answer. Peter
