promise of marriage assistance, please

these are the first and second promise of marriage for Felice Grosso. this is my translation:
Felice Grosso, age 35, laborer, native of the same town and residing in Foggia, adult son of the deceased Giuseppe & Margarita Troisi, morte ?? in the town. the first, the first of febraury 1790 and the second 17 aug 1812 ????.

so this states that his parents, Giuseppe & Margarita Troisi are deceased, gives their dates of death, but doesn't identify the woman he is marrying? or am i missing something? would they have died in Tufo or somewhere else?

thanks,
donna

I am basically reading what you are reading. I don't see the bride mentioned anywhere. It is quite different from the norm isn't it. Unless it is because the groom was living in another town? Not sure.

That form, which was to serve as the marriage bann, it was instead used as a declaration of a state of free of Felice Grosso, age 35, laborer, born in Tufo and residing in Foggia, adult son of the deceased Giuseppe and Margarita Troisi, both died in Tufo, the first on February 1st 1790, the second on August 17, 1812.
This is the reason why you can not find the name of the future bride. The act refers only to the future husband, testifies that he was free from the marriage bond.

Another new one for both of us. I think that we were both thrown because it was written up on a “Marriage Bann” form. I don't think there were forms as such for “marital status” certificates. I've just had a read through the following which you might be interested in.

http://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/l ... ro#p205123

http://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/l ... ro#p185165

The “marital status” documents that I have for each of my parents have been typed up on an old manual typewriter. (Dad's one looks like they needed to change the ribbon, it is quite light and whoever typed it, typed so hard that I can feel the fullstops and commas on the other side!). Basically it has the name, parents names, where and when born, place of current residence – so similar info that you have on your one here. The wording is a little different for each of the documents but basically at the bottom for each it is saying that the information is “released" as part of the legal documents for use for marriage. (Something like that anyway. I need to get it translated properly some time.) Then each document has six 50 lire postage stamps on it plus 2 x 5 lire postage stamps so I guess a total cost of 310 lire for each - I assume. Then there are various signatures and stamping (with stamp pad) on each of them.
