A baby-girl was let in the foundling wheel on April 5 1897. She wore a shirt and a cap with lace and ribbon of pink muslin, another headset of white blue and coffee muslin with a green ribbon and a yellow linen cloth. There was also a note stating: "Reverend sister, note that on 5 April 1897 I have thrown away a baby-girl, 8 days old, named Domenica Bullezzi, daughter of Enrico Bullezzi and of Agata Grosso, wife of Enrico Bullezzi. Since the father is a soldier out of town, my "sfortuna" wanted that I throw her away, but if the father comes back with the health, my daughter will call her back. I pray that you don't send her far from Messina. I ask the person that will take her to be able to take her. As recognition signs she has a white shirt and a white cloth a colored ???? with a piece of green and a piece of white and a white cap, over her head, with a pink ribbon. Having nothing else to say I recommend her greately. The baby is a female, about 8days old. Name imposed Domenica Bullezzi. No distinguish mark. In rather good health"

Thank you very much to you and Livio.

So now we know how this whole thing happened - good grief!

So I wonder if they took census in Messina, Italy - where was Domenica living in 1900 after her birth. And what did she do between 1897 and 1920 when she arrived in New York.

When she says, "my daughter", I guess it is Agata's mother?

It appears that Samuel Ballezzi married Anna and had children James and Harry. He lived to be 83, may he rest in peace. Paulo signed up for WWI.

Lucy Ballezzi
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFTC-B98 - 1920 census

This shows them all living together in South Philly - Domenica has not arrived yet and I believe another name for Esther, is Palma. I will search on those names.
