Giuseppe Lauria Occupation and Place of Death

Postby AngelaGrace56 » 27 Feb 2016, 06:20

Just two things which I'm not sure of:

1. Giuseppe's profession “custode di ..... ?” so Guardian/Custodian of ..... ?

2. “e morto avanti la Cappella di S.Marco” so “died in front of the Chapel of S.Marco” Is that correct?

Death Record No 121 Giuseppe Lauria: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 9.jpg.html

Thank you.

So he looked after the pigs. Thank you, Livio.

My interpretation is that they are not his own pigs.

Thank you, Livio. On all the other records that I have for Giuseppe, he is a peasant farmer. I've been trying to scout the chapel but can't see this in Grumento Nova. I'll keep looking. The local church was and still is S.Antonio/Antonino Martire.

Angela, a "Cappella" is not necessarily a church or inside a church often it is just a "tabernacolo" (shrine) like this one:Image

I have been finding references when I type in "S.Marco Santuario Grumento Nova". I don't seem to be able to get the location though, nor a bonafide image. Maybe someone can help. Thank you.

Also, I was wondering whether the Cappella di S.Marco, may have been amongst the Grumentum ruins, but I suspect it would have actually stated that in the record?
