lowercase g gm in front of name

Postby Genbridges » 31 Mar 2016, 03:41

I have been coming across the prefix g gm- (with the m superscript) on several early 1800's death certificates. Example, the 1814 death certificate of Domenico de Laurentiis: ...Domenico de Laurentiis da g gm (could be q qm) Nicola e Domenica Angiolino...

Is this a title? Or is it an abbreviation for an additional given name?

Thanks!
Patti

Hi,
the link is abt pag 1, but it are no the Death act of Domenico de Laurentiis, so I cannot read, if you can say me the page it is better... however I believe that is the abbreviation of "quondam"; this word used before a name means: deceased;
so= son of late Nicola and of late Domenica Angiolino

As Suanj said, the abbreviation is qm, singular (to indicate that the person is deceased) or qqm, plural (to indicate that both persons, after the abbreviation, are deceased)
