Translating Birth Record

Postby molan » 15 Jun 2016, 03:40

Hi, we found a Birth Record for Giovanni Veteri from 24 Jun 1878 in Petilia Policastro, Catanzaro. We are having trouble reading it, especially the parents. We would appreciate any help that can be given in reading this record.
Thanks
Gary

Glad to help! :-)

I do not know if you already have this..
POSSIBLE birth record of Giuseppe Veteri (the father of Giovanni in the record you posted above) born in 1838 (Giuseppe was age 40 at the birth of Giovanni in 1878, making his birth year about 1838)...

#21
Dated 30 January 1838 at 6 PM at the town office in Policastro.
Before the official appeared...
Giuseppe Veteri, age 48, coffeemaker(?), residing in Policastro, to present a male child who he declared was born to Teresa Rocca, 31, residing in Policastro, and to the same Giuseppe Veteri, 48, coffeemaker, residing in Policastro, on day 29 of the month of January 1838 at 4 AM at the house of same Giuseppe.
He declared that the child was given the name Giuseppe Giacomo Antonio.

Right column states that the child was baptized at the parish church of S. Annunziata on 30 january 1838.

The second page lists witnesses to the record:
Vincenzo Sisco, 38, landowner
Gaspere Caracelli(?), 53, tailor
Both residing in Policastro.

Thank you again Tessa, we didn't have that record. We are slowly working thru the civil records.
