I agree that it looks like "di" after "per" in the record, but I've never before seen "di' written after "per" in Italian. Possibly a native Italian speaker can explain this to me?

thank you both for this. it doesn't help that the original act was shot slightly out of focus.

i do not understand who Maria Assunta Mauro is. i read that the bride is Mariantonia; but, am i mistaken and it is actually Maria Assunta that is written?

thanks

Maria Assunta Mauro is the daughter of the couple getting married. The bride is Mariantonia Mauro. Since the couple had not previously recognized Maria Assunta as their natural daughter, Maria Assunta had been given the mother's surname at birth. Maria Assunta's birth record probably reads that she was the daughter of Mariantonia Mauro from her natural union with a man who was not in any way related to her but who did not wish to be named.

gli sposi dichiarano di riconoscere Maria Assunta come (= per) propria (= di loro) figlia legittima

thank yo both for the explanation. it seems the translator that i used left out certain words that would have clarified.

i am most appreciative, erudita and mmogno,

Happy to help, Donna. Thanks, also mmogno, for your explanation of "di" after "per."
