Antonino Ballato, age 50, a peasant born in Giojosa (Gioiosa) died at 6 P.M. in his own house in the quartiere Piano (Piano district or neighborhood) on Jul 19, 1872. He was the husband of Basilia L'Abbate, the daughter of dec Domenico L'Abbate and dec Maria Cosimo.

I have no idea why her parents' names are given and not Antonino's, but this is how the record reads. I also see that her father's name differs from what it was in her marriage record that Livio translated for you.

I clearly read "figlio dei defunti Domenico..." and I believe the mistake made by the clerk was to add the surname "L'Abbate" after Domenico.
Antonino was the son of Domenico and Maria Cosimo (both deceased)

Here is something to consider :-)
Unfortunately, no notation of marriage.

This is a birth act in Gioiosa in 1823 for Antonino Ballotta, son of Giuseppe Balotta, 28yo laborer, and of his wife Carmela Costantino Muccio, 22yo.

NOTE:
I found one additional Antonino Ballota born in Gioiosa, in 1824.
Parents were Giuseppe Ballota and Maria Giardina.

Thank you both.

Just a quick question. I know in the town of Castelbuono, when the women died she was under her maiden name, does that apply here as well?

Here is the death of Basilia L'Abbate in 1894.

Her parents are Giuseppe L'Abbate and Carmela Maimone (both deceased)
She was widow of Antonino Ballota

So it appears that Domenico [Ballota, not L'Abbate] and Maria Cosimo were the parents of Antonino Ballota on this death act ...
as Livio :-) stated.

I was responding to Livio's indication of my spelling of the surname :-)

It was not about the "ll" or "l' (both of which show up in the records...
It was about the second "a" rather than "o" - which is more important :-)

BTW - you will also find "L'Abate" and L'Abbate" in the records.
