Would someone kindly help me with a translation?

Post by maddief »

As the letter indicates, I am requesting my grandfather's birth certificate. Unfortunately, I do not speak Italian and don't want any misunderstanding of my request due to the mistakes I would obviously make if I were to venture a translation on my own. Would someone kindly offer a translation? I would be so grateful. :o)

Dear Sir,

I am currently looking for information about my grandfather, Franco Franconi. I believe that he was born in the commune of Stilo in 1909, possibly in mid-July. If it is at all helpful, his parents’ names were Ferdinando Franconi and Maria (Sabettini) Franconi.

I would be very grateful if you would send me a certified copy of his birth certificate if it is found. I am including a self-addressed envelope as well as an international reply coupon to cover the postage.

I thank you in advance for your help.

Gentile signore, (or Gentili signori, if plural)

Sto ricercando informazioni circa mio nonno, Franco Franconi.

La (or vi, if plural) ringrazio in anticipo per l'aiuto che vorrà (or vorrete, if plural) darmi.

I hope this will help
Regards
Tommaso

Thank you so much for your help. I never could have done that on my own. :)

I have two questions about your translation:

1. I am female. Other than changing "grato" to "grata" are there any other words that I need to change the gender? (Sorry I didn't mention that with my original post.)

2. Will the Internation Reply Coupon be understood? I heard the translation in Italian was "uno buono di riposta internationale" but would this be understood?
