Someone can tell me the translation of the occupation "Scavanger"...
What does it means in italian?

Was it on a manifest? The only occupation close to that in Italian is scavatore, which can be an excavator or a ditch digger.

The english word is spelled scavenger - a person that goes through other peoples possessions (that have been thrown away) and collects the possessions for themselves.

I believe in italian it would be - collezionista di rifiuto

In North Jersey, the term was "ragman." Some Italian families became very weathy in the carting and hauling business.
