I recently discovered I had a great uncle Santi Buono. How would his first name translate to an American name?

Santi, Sante, Santo Santa, santino are all first names in Italy and, it wopuld have been normally translated as SAMMY once the immigrans arrived in NYC. I do know of a few people who use Santo as a first name without further ado as well. =Peter=
