Palma is very rare but it is a female first name. I found this at

Forma femminile di Palmazio, deriva dal latino Palmatius e significa "eccellente". Non vi sono sante con questo nome, l'onomastico si può festeggiare il 4 ottobre in onore di S. Palmazio martire.

Feminine for Palmazio, comes from Latin Palmatius which means "Excellent". There are no saints with this name, the name-day can be celebrated on Oct 4 in honor of St Palmazio martyr.

This record is from Molochio, Calabria. I've been researching mainly in Oppido Mamertina and just found some family in Molochio.

I know women with the name Palma and also Palmina. I just assumed it referred to the palms used on Palm Sunday.
