How can I get a Birth Record from a municipality?

Postby shergald » 27 Apr 2009, 21:00

I have sent a letter plus two emails to the Montecorvino Pugliana Bureau of Records trying to obtain a birth certificate for our deceased mother.

But no one responds. Can anyone tell me what to do at this point?

Name: Anna Maddaloni
DOB: February 2, 1908 or 1909
alternate DOB: June, 1911 (possible error)

Place: Montecorvino Pugliana (a province of Salerno)

Mother: Maria Maddaloni
Father: unknown

Using the following site, send a letter to the Sindaco, (Mayor) requesting action.

can it be that you must go in contact with the roman.cath.discese-archive?
i don´t know really when in Italy started the civil files. maybe someone from Italy knows it better...
i know of sure that in the Alto Adige, North-Italy the civil files started at 1923/24 - to read there > http://www.ihff.at > english-version > available countries > Austria with South Tyrol > South Tyrol and Trient
(research-possibilities in the former austrian parts)

here the site for "Chiesa Cattolica Italiana". take the discese you need at the map: http://www.chiesacattolica.it/cci_new/P ... idPagina=4

other links:
http://www.effata.org/Diocesi/
http://www.mantovaninelmondo.com/Link/diocesi_it.htm

also a google-search with "archivio diocesi........." may help to find the archive you need, or to look for the site of the parish-church at the town, so they have one.....

hope this helps.

The keeping of Civil Vital Records began officially with the unification of the country between 1860 and 1870.
In most areas of the south, they were begun in 1866.
In the Piedmont region, the old Duchy of Savoy, they were begun in
1839.
And in what was the Serenissima Republic, under Venice, they were not begun until 1870 or 1871.
Also under Napoleons rule, many areas the keeping of civil vital records began in the early 1800's.

All of this information has been helpful. I am using your first suggestion to write the mayor, for which I thank you.
