How to address a letter

Postby karma » 05 Aug 2009, 02:05

Hello

I am about to request a birth extract from Dinami, Catanzaro, Italy but I'm not sure exactly who to address it to. Can someone point me to an up to date address and show me how to format the address?

I have searched 'Archivio Di Stato' for Catanzaro but I'm not sure if that's who I need to write to. I'll also be sending letters to other Comunes so I'd like to think my letters have some chance of arriving in the right places. Unfortunately I don't read Italian.

I've also read elsewhere that people have received email replies from Archive offices. Has anyone tried researching by email? Any luck?

Thanks for your time.

Do you mean the following town location:

Region: Calabria

Province: VIBO VALENTIA

Town: DINAMI

Here is the complete address with additional information.

Comune di DINAMI

Provincia di VIBO VALENTIA

Indirizzo (address) : RIONE PALAZZI

C.A.P. (zip code) : 89833

Telefono : 0966 - 904073

Fax : 0966 - 990018

STATO CIVILE (similar to the county clerk) - STELLA PAGANO

*note the above name would be the person in charge of birth, marriage and death records.

You can use an interactive form letter, or you could create one of your own with the following Italian Letter Writing Guide.

Thank you for your reply wldspirit. So, would this be a correct format for the envelope? Also, would you suggest addressing it to Stella Pagano personally?

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Rione Palizzi
89833 Dinami
Vibo Valentia
ITALIA

The province abbreviation is used:

Ufficio di Stato Civile
Comune di Dinami
Rione Palazzi
89833 Dinami VV
Italy

I would fax my request, and yes they have occasionally responded to request by email, however I could not locate an email address for them.

Thanks again wldspirit. I'll try faxing them. This is my first ever research into the Italian side of the family, so I'm quite excited...!

I'm back again.... Is there a website where I can get the above information for other Comunes? I need the same details for Laureana di Borrello.

Thanks again wldspirit.
