The real first name for Theresa's mother was Maria Anna (shortened in Mariannina), here you have another arrival manifest (October 1907) for Maria Anna Piemonte, travelling with her two child Teresa (age 7) and Antonio (age 2).
Marianina stated she was in the U.S. before (from 1902 to 1905 in Pittsburgh - PA) she was joining her husband Felice Gentile in Boston MA (547 Child Street) and was leaving in Italy (Aiello) her father Luigi.
On the second page of the manifest she stated Avella? as place of birth for them both (she and her two child)
Don't know if it was a mispelling of Aiello because it does exist also a town named Avella in the Avellino province... :?

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about MA Anna Piemonte
Name: MA Anna Piemonte
Arrival Date: 8 Oct 1907
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1867
Age: 40
Gender: Female
Port of Departure: Napoli
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Greek
Ship Name: Citta di Torino
Search Ship Database: Search the Citta di Torino in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
NATIVITY: Avellino
Line: 1
Microfilm Serial: T715
Microfilm Roll: T715_1011
Birth Location: Avellino
Birth Location Other: avella
Page Number: 48

It was normal she travelled under her maiden name because here in Italy women retain their maiden name for all their life even if married.

Laura!
I am just too excited for words. I've been at a brick wall
on this Italian side for 10 years. You are a wonder and
I thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the
time and I am so looking forward to working with the
information you've discovered regarding my Italian family.
Thanks. Connie

Connie,
There appears to be records available that can be ordered in to the Family History Library

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... o+civile++

I'm so happy for you, being able to get help from the members of this Forum and get beyond the BRICK WALL.

I've had my share of brick walls.

Here is your ancestor's location. Click on Mappe on the left to see the map.

Thanks again to Laura and I will be back at my Family History Center with my new information. So appreciated.

Thanks trevisan2, for verifying and sending me so many links to view
records. I appreciate your direction to this site, which has finally moved
me past my brick wall. I look forward to a more productive search of my
Italian family.

Because I'm new, just to verify, "Aiello del Sabato" would be
considered the town within the province?

I so appreciate all the help, responses and suggestions.

Greetings,
I like this Forum site because "WE CAN LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER"

I have been doing my own research for years now and having fits about how to understand the place names in Italy. I believe it was Peter Timber that introduced me to the www.nonsolocap.it site, that is the best I have seen for Italian place names.

As I help others learn the research process, I always direct them to that site, so they do not get place names mixed up with surnames.

Connie, you will learn one step at a time. You have received a great jump start from the Forum members!

Trevisan2
You are so right about my major jump with my family history. I am so appreciative of the willingness of so many skilled researchers. I feel I have received such a great gift, now I need to review the suggested websites and reading and move forward as you say one step at a time.

It all can be overwhelming if you only look at all you need to do and learn. Thanks so much for directing me to this site and helping and guiding me. I will look at the site suggested by Peter. I've searched the Google map for nearby cities to be familiar with them.

thanks..
Connie
