Chapel of St Martin and St George, Pontecagnano

Postby popssunshine » 18 Aug 2009, 09:10

Does anyone know what happened to the chapel that was rebuilt by the Army Ordnance Corps in memory of those who fell in the battle of Salerno Bay (1943)? My Father was one of the soldiers involved in its reconstruction in 1945, but when we tried to find it a few years ago we could find no trace.According to newspaper cuttings I have from the time it was erected "within a mile and a half of the Allied Cemetry."

Thank you Suanj
for your reply.
Do you know if the chairs of the chapel are in the warehouse? On the back of each chair was the name of the home churches of each soldier.
Do you know when it stopped being a chapel?
Thank you
Elizabeth
