Location in Ischia

Postby Sanguinetti » 26 May 2010, 18:33

Doing my genealogy search on Taliercio and Balestrieri from Ischia.
I got some information that I might still have some relatives that owned a market store called Tapaquino by a Plaza Buonopane in Barano.
What's the best way to find the location of the store or the Plaza. I tried google earth with no result.

Piazza (with an "i" and two z's), not Plaza.

This page offers some clues http://www.italiansrus.com/articles/our ... piazza.htm

Buonopane is a frazione (neighborhood, near or within the main comune) of Comune di Barano d'Ischia, Provincia di Napoli, Regione di Campania.

Piazza di Buonopane most likely refers to the one and only piazza in the frazione. If you know anything about New England, think in terms of the "town green", except that piazzi are generally paved over with cobblestones and surrounded by shops and often a church or cathederal as opposed to being grassy parks as in New England.

"Piazza" at wikipedia.org: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piazza

For what it is worth, the business name may have begun with the word "Tappa", thus "Tappa Quino". However, I am not happy with that word Quino as it does not seem to have any meaning in italiano.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barano_d%27Ischia

Buonopane is a suburb (in german Vorort) of Barano d'Ischia:
"Im Süden der Insel Ischia, in sanft hügeliger Gegend liegt die Gemeinde Barano mit den Vororten: Testaccio, Piedimonte, Fiaiano, Schiappone und Buonopane."

in fact it is the "village-place" -square (in centro of the suburb Buonopane) - so like a village: "Buonopane - Dorfplatz (Piazzetta)"
