Mercogliano Cemeteries

Postby winegen » 23 Jun 2010, 19:59

I'm looking for cemeteries in this town that may contain Ferrara's. My grand father came from there to america but his parents remained there.

Although anything is possible, you should be aware of the facts regarding Italian burials. See this thread for information and links to other threads on this subject http://italiangenealogy.com/Forums/view ... 17212.html

Comune di Mercogliano
Via Roma
0825.788145
0825.787027 fax

I believe though that the above phone number is for calls within Italy. Also you would need to be able to speak Italian to make such a phone call.

The above is the town's home page.

Cemetaries in Italy are mostly located in the highest part of the town and surrounded by pine trees. The cemetaries never grow beyond their walls and people are buries with markers in the walls and in the ground for 20 years dug up with the bones placed in a comunal pit every 20 years to make room for the new burials. The comunal pit is the final repository for the deceased. The record of death is in the Municipal vital stats office (MUNICIPIO at www.nonsolocap.it) UFFICIO DI STATO CIVILE.
The services if free of charge and you can go to this website for the form letter in I talian for a death certifcate
