Is this the Giacomo (note: Gia... - not Gio...) you are referring to?

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Giacomo Mascia
Name: Giacomo Mascia
Arrival Date: 28 Apr 1905
Birth Year: abt 1888
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Latin
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Prinzess Irene

I can post the manifest if you would like.

According to this manifest, Giacomo's Last Residence = Scisciano; there are two such places in Italy today, a comune (city/town) and a frazione (neighborhood/hamlet):

Comune di Scisciano, Provincia di Napoli, Regione di Campania, Southern Italy

Frazione Scisciano, Comune di Maiolati Spontini, Provincia di Ancona, Regione di Marche, Central Italy

I would suggest the first one is the more likely but it is not always easy to be certain about these things. Presuming the first, you can write to the address below and request Giacomo's birth and, if applicable, marriage certificates. These will show the names and birthplaces of his parents.

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Scisciano
Piazza XX Settembre, 1
80030 Scisciano NA

By the way, there are four Mascia's listed in the current Italian telephone directory for Scisciano. See http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... ciano&l=en

There is a resonable chance that some or all may be related to Giacomo. You may wish to try contacting them and see what develops. This site ( http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tools.html ) includes a generic form letter to potential relatives which you may want to try making use of. Personally, I am of the opinion that one should write a proper and detailed letter describing what you know of your ancestry, incuding a few photographs, and then have it professionally translated before mailing off.
