The comune's website (has many photos): http://www.comune.ruoti.pz.it/

Google translation of same site: http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... iso-8859-1

Google satelite image of Ruoti: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 1&t=k&z=16

A YouTube video of a family trip to Ruoti: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjzsZZZVnpE

Google Images: http://www.google.com/images?q=ruoti&rl ... 92&bih=645

Also, give the free app Google Earth (link below in my signature) a try. Better satelite images and additional photos. The main village is a short distance northwest of where both Google Maps (online) and Google Earth places the Ruoti marker.

with a paid subscription to ancestry.com, you can access some Italian records from the town of Ruoti

what year were your great grandparents born? there are acts of birth on ancestry for the town from 1866 to 1910. can you give us their specific names, and approximate years of birth, if you need such records?

Maestra,
I do have an account with Ancestry.com. My great-grandparents were Leonardo Anthony Iacouzze (DOB: 7-10-1887 in NYC) and Angela Maria Mariano (DOB: 5-26-1887 in Ruoti). I cannot find any info on my great-great grandfather--I believe all of the Iacouzze's and Mariano's originated in Ruoti, Italy.
Thanks!

Do you mean Ruta. I am not sure on the spelling. I had the same problem yesterday. a Franzione is a section of a town... Ruta is a Franzione in the commune of Camogli-province:Genoa-region Liquria...
My Aunt Angelina Coffrini (maiden name)..I don' t know her married name. She lived I think in Camogli and her son lives in Ruta. Or she lived in Ruta and her son lives in Camogli. This Angelina never went to America and just died possibly within the last 20 years. My sister and brother visited with her more than once. My father was Giuseppe di Antonio Coffrini. He came to America in the year 1909. I couldn't find Cembrano, Ruta or Camogli yesterday. This website is great. my father was born 1881

Crosa,

The town my family is from is called Ruoti. It is in southern Italy, in the Basilicata region and Potenza province.

Hi, My Grandmother, who is now 104, immigrated from Routi in 1914. Her last name was Mangine - on some of the records it looks like Mancino. Her mother's last name was Sardone. They came through Ellis Island - some of the family came to Bridgeport, Ct and then to Naugatuck, CT. Others (her maternal Aunts) went to Pennsylvannia.
I was fortunate enough to go to Routi about 15 years ago and I met my grandmother's first cousins and their families.(they had never met my Grandmother, I just showed up on their doorstep!). It was an amazing experience when one of the older men started to sing a song to a baby and I new it and sang along!

Not sure if any of that helps! I have been in contact with some of the cousins on Facebook, they don't live there anymore. Let me know if I can tell you anymore.
