Casalvecchio Italy

Postby bousejg » 13 Aug 2011, 23:58

Anyone been to Casalvecchio or done any research about their relatives there? I plan on going there in October and see where my grandparents lived. Their name is Andreano. Did some research and found out I had 2 more great uncles which we never even knew existed. Would love any information about the town if possible.

I'm assuming you are referring to the town of CASALVECCHIO DI PUGLIA :-)

The Comune of Casalvecchio di Puglia has a population of about 2000.
http://en.comuni-italiani.it/071/014/

There are currently 7 listings in the Italian Phonebook for ANDREANO in Casalvecchio :-)

You may wish to write to one or more of these "potential" relatives...

Thanks for that info and I'm way ahead of you. I did write to all the Andreano's a while back and actually got a hit from a distance relative. They sent me a photo copy of a shipping label of items that where shipped to relatives of my Dad's in 1944, It was a shock to us as we didn't know that my grandfather had 2 other brothers.

Now, I haven't heard from any of them recently although I did mail a letter to them telling them about my upcoming trip there. If I don't hear from there, got any idea on where I would start looking for family history in a small town like Casalvecchio?

Any idea's on what information I should bring with me for research? Or any other hints on doing research in Italy?

Here's a good suggestion from member ITALYSEARCHER in this thread...

topic11473.html?hilit=trip%20records
I suggest your write to both the local priest and the town, telling them what you are looking for and giving the dates you will be in town. Take a copy of the letter with you when you go. Thy may not have done anything with it but they will be more likely to help you with a copy in your hand. Write in Italian about one month before you go. Have a great trip. Take the potential relative with you if possible.

Address of town records office:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Fabio Filzi, 66
71030 Casalvecchio di Puglia (FG)
ITALY
