I have been trying to find reecords of any kind for my husband's uncle Giuseppe Petralia, born in Prizzi in 1904. I have searched baptisimal records for him but there are none. Giuseppe immigrated to the US but there are no records on the Ellis Island site. We believe he was in some kind of "trouble" and did not enter the country by the usual means. He did change the spelling of his last name to Petrolio and it remained that spelling until he died in 1957 in New York. I have searched the SS death index and there are no records for him either under Petralia or Petrolio. He did marry (no children) - spouse was Lena Birilli. Any help you can give me as to where I else I can look for him? Since his wife and siblings are deceased, I have to rely on my research in order to find any information on him. He did exist; he and his wife were family friends. His occupation was a tailor.

It could be the person that you are searching for? suanj
This might be a duplicate reply to your message since I am having some problems with my computer. Yes! this is my husband's uncle Giuseppe. We both recognized his address in Brooklyn. I believe the document you attached is a receipt for his US Naturalization. Now that I have his full date of birth and the spelling of his name, perhaps I can resume my search. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me and also attach the document. Can I ask where you obtained the document and how you attached it to the message you sent to me? Also can you suggest other sitess I can research so that perhaps I can find more information. I hope that this is the first of many documents I will find on Zio Giuseppe!! Grazie ancora!!
the index from 1901 to 1906( by first names starting with "G"; the records are in latin, so Giuseppe becoming Josephi, and start with "J") and I no found Giuseppe Petralia son of Salvatore Petralia and Epifania Boccellato(or Buccellato)
maybe Giuseppe was middle name? when Giuseppe emigrated? he married in Italy or in USA? regards, suanj

Antonio Birilli died in 1918; I believe that Lena married at Giuseppe around 1930 suanj
Thank you for all of the information you have sent to me. The Census information on Lena Birilli sounds like it might be her. She was born in 1909 and died in 2007 and did have (to my knowledge) 2 brothers Joe and Dominick; dont remember any other siblings. Can you tell me where I could view the census documents?
As for Zio Giuseppe, as far as we know his only name was Giuseppe. Do not know when he immigrated to the US (questionable entry - no information on Ellis Island.org for him. He did marry Lena Birilli in the United States. How did you come about the information about his marriage in 1930. I would very much like to see this documentation or the cited information. I appreciate your help with my searches. The only thing that saddens me is that I cannot find any information on my maternal or paternal ancestors who were all born and died in Riposto (provincia Catania) Sicily. Unfortunately the only ancestors who immigrated to the US were my grandmothers and one of my grandfathers. All others never immigrated. All I have is their names. Grazie mille por il tuo lavoro!!
I remember that Lena was not a member of Frances Birillo family in 1930 .. so maybe she was married... but also it is possible another explanation.... I no saved the 1930 census sorry.. I hope that my suggestion is correct.... I cannot find the marriage record; I searched from 1920(!) to 1937 and nobody Lena Birilli...
I found the marriage of: Birilli Domenico Jun 2 1928 14515 (1928) Manhattan Bodalomenti Pietrina Jun 2 1928 14515 (1928) Manhattan
Birilli Joseph Jul 30 1921 30156 (1921) Manhattan Fonn Anne Jul 30 1921 30156 (1921) Manhattan
abt Joseph Birilli (Lena brother) birthdate I found it in a genealogic tree on ancestry.com

I am related on the other side of the family. Lena is my father's sister. They were wonderful people. Lena's mother, my grandmother, lived across the hall at 63rd Street. In fact, I was born in Grandma's apartment.
I have been researching my husband's side of the family for several years now and did not think that I would hear anymore information from the question I put out to Italian Genealogy so long ago. Although I had much success in finding ancestors back to the 1600's, I could not find much on Uncle Joe except for an application for citizenship that was sent to me by one of IG's members. I started looking at Aunt Lena's family. My family and I lived on 69th Street (walking distance from her apartment). I knew your Aunt Margie and her husband, your cousins Lillie and Vivian and some of your cousins who lived on 66th street. I even knew your grandmother Frances (always saw her when we went to visit Aunt Lena). Is your father Dominic who lived in Lake Hiawatha or Aunt Lena's other brother (whom I believe lived in California?) My mom and dad were very good friends of Lena and Joe and in fact, Aunt Lena, being the perennial matchmaker, introduced me to my husband (who happened to be Uncle Joe' nephew.) We were always in touch with Aunt Lena even after she moved down to Deltona. She even got to meet my children. I would like to continue this "conversation" by private email. If you would like to do the same, I will send you a private email through Italian Genealogy and you can let me know whether you wish to continue. I will send you my personal email in the private message. Thanks for writing back. I hope we can continue to correspond.

Thank you. Yes I have viewed the census but unfortunately, I have not been able to find any other documents related to his birth or his entry into the US. The only thing I am certain of is that he did change his surname from Petralia to Petrolio. There are no Ellis Island arrivals for him under either name, no marriage records (was married in the US) and no records in the social security death index.
