I am excited to be visiting my mom's home town, Roseto Valfortore. I'd love to stay in the town so we can see where mom grew up, but can't seem to find any leads! Any help would be appreciated!
I'd also love to do a little geneology while I am there. My mother's maiden name is Confalone and her father, Philipo, came over to the US with a man with the last name Falcone. Seems those surnames might be common, but I wanted to see if anyone had any information about either family. My mom, Maria, doesn't remember much about the town since she was very young when she came over to the US (she ended up in Raritan, NJ).
Thank you for any information. I'm truly grateful to find this site!
http://www.comune.rosetovalfortore.fg.it/hh/index.php is the town website and contct info. Try searching under agriturismo Roseto Valfortore for a place to stay. Choose to have your evening meal there OR lunch. Not all of these small towns have restaurants that are open during the week. If you get stuck for lunch go to an 'alimentare' before 1pm and ask them to make a 'panino'. Go to the 'anagrafe' office at the town hall to request nformation. Find out when mass is said and show to ask the priest for permission to search the records. Have a great trip. Check out my website for a story of two americans who did the same thing.
