Alpena, or maybe Alfrena. Please help me decipher this.

Postby adamf » 01 Sep 2012, 03:53

Just came upon my GGG grandmother's first marriage certificate. Her name is Rosina Crosetta. I can't seem to make out her place of birth on line 12.

Any suggestions?? Thanks

There is a frazione or hamlet in the city of Pinerolo in the province of Turin (Piedmont region)called Abbadia Alpina.

some other possibilities:

the town of Gignese has a frazione called Alpino Cignese, Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Piedimont region.

the town of Seppiana, in the same province and region, also has a frazione called Alpino.

I believe that the surname spelling of Rosina's parents are:
CROSETTO and BURLANDO.
Rosina signed as Crosetto and not Crosetta.

"Alpena or Alfrena" seeming to me that in italian must be "Alpina", but no towns with just this name...
I found on ancestry.com a genealogic tree abt:

Antonius Pietro Crosetto
Birth 4 February 1837 in Canischio, Torino, Piemonte, Italy

wife:
Maria Adelaide Burlando
Birth 15 July 1844 in Forno Canavese, Torino, Piemonte, Italy

I believe that Rosina birth place is in Torino area also... maybe Canischio more probable, because in Braidwood some other Crosetto coming from Canischio.. I know not because Rosina declared "Alpina" that is a adjective and not a substantive...

The manifest agrees with suanj! Spellling is CROSETTO :D
Unfortunately, only the destination of Braidwood is listed. No specific place in Italy.
However, a few lines down there are others from Italy going to Braidwood...
G. B. Buffo, 73, miner
Antonio Draccoco (not sure of the first two letters of this name), age 32, miner
Appolonia Draccoco, age 31.

You are all amazing!!!!!! I've been on familysearch hundreds of times and did not see this record somehow. Looks like I've got a pretty round target where to find Rose's village of birth. To Canischio!!!!!

Thank you all.
