San Marco Poorhouse, Palermo circa 1870s

Postby seabreezes1 » 10 Mar 2013, 20:27

Does anyone know the address and current circumstances of the San Marco Poorhouse, founded in Palermo in 1873 by Blessed Father Giacomo Cusmano? Blessed Father Cusmano also founded the Boccone del Povero, the Sister & Brother Servants of the Poor.

I'm hoping to make a visit to Sicily in the next year or so, and am planning that trip. Would love to see the location of San Marco:)

Thanks!

Here are the Italian Phone Book listings...
The second listing is the "Casa di Riposo Boccone del Povero" and it is located at the Piazetta S. Marco in Palermo...

Hi Karen,
here the link of "Blessed Father Giacomo Cusmano" website :
http://www.cusmano.org/en/
You'll find all information about "Padre Giacomo".
S.Marco church during 2^ world war was bombing and partially destroyed. After that was rebuilded and know it is possible to visit it asking to the "brother & sister" of Giacomo Cusmano.
Let me know when you'll be in Plaermo: i'll lead you to the curch..

Greetings from Palermo

Vincenzo.
I'm searching lost relatives and descendant of my greatgrandfather Vincenzo Genualdi (or Gennaldi or Genuardi) and my greatgrandmother Concetta Davola (their sons: Angela, Carmela, Antonio, Bartolomeo, Ernesto, Simone, Riccardo, Maria) went in Chicago,Ill., and New Orleans, in 1880-1920 from Sicily. Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).

Grazie, Vincenzo!

We do not have a date, as yet. It is still mostly a dream.... but one that I hope to make real over the next 12-16 months :)
