Brunignago, Brescia, Italy

Postby trevisan2 » 22 Nov 2013, 13:42

I can't seem to locate the town of Brunignago, in Brescia, Italy.

Can someone please tell me the correct way to spell this name and where it is located?
I am looking for a Domenica Scassola, daughte of Domenico
Born abt 1781.

Thanks

Hi Trevisan !
There is a tool I often find useful when dealing with Brescia: a nineteenth century book that lists the old names of the villages and the towns both in Italian and in the local dialect.
http://www.brescialeonessa.it/dialet/vocabo/index.htm
Go to the drop down menu on the left and click on Nomi de' Paesi della Provincia. It is at the bottom
Problem is, I don't see anything that could sound like Brunignago.
The surname Scassola is found in Valle Sabbia. Today the Scassola live mainly in Gavardo: maybe the place you are looking for is a frazione of Gavardo. Or maybe it is a Comune nearby: What about Puegnago del Garda (it was formerly called Povegnago or Puvignago)?

Thanks Paola. the Bresian book is interesting and worth reviewing, but I don't think it relates to place names.
I tried to find it in www.nonsolocap.it but did not see it there either.

Here is another place that I can't seem to find either

Triaroi di Sotto, Brescia, Italy with the name of Domenica Cerqui being born there in about 1838. On her marriage record in Treviso Bresciano,in 1904 she listed the Triaroi di Sotto as her birth place.

Then I have see the place of Capovalle being called something line "Hanno" in the parish records in the earlier records.

It might be Tiarno di Sotto, hamlet in the Commune of Ledro, province of Trento, just a few km's from Brescia province:

It was an autonomous Commune until 2010.

Ciao Trevisan
Yes the book is a dictionary, but it has a list of villages names at the end. It is called "Nomi de' Paesi della Provincia" Names of the places of the Province. Just scroll down the menu on the left
Capovalle in the Province of Brescia was called Hano till 1907
