Re: Campenarello
There was a busy ship line called the Vincenzo FLORIO...
I searched for the "Floria" just in case and nothing came up...
There were other ships with the name Florio... all travelling 1900 to 1924 on the Ellis data base...
Vincenzo Florio
Giovanna Florio
Ignazio Florio
even Florida...
Donna, if you can provide his name, year of birth, spouse we can look for his ships record, if you wish.

Re: Campenarello
Thanks for your help. I have looked for him on Ellis Island website to no avail. His name is Saverio Barletta or Parletta. Born Sept. 8,1886. Arrived New York from Naples Italy Nov 20,1899 at age 14.
any help would be appreciated

Re: Campenarello
Do you what his mother's maiden name was?
If he travelled with her... he might be under her surname... I've seen this happen a few times. Depended on how accurate the ship records keeper was... some made the corrections on the manifest... some didn't ... and then how the names were transcribed for the Ellis database is another story... 8O
Also if he had any siblings who travelled to the USA, please mention.
I did find a 1899 manifest of a Carmine... with his mother Fortuna, same surname as well, but only a month earlier than you stated....
I also found a census record of a Saverio - 1930 (going on memory here), that states that he entered the USA in 1899, and one of his own children was also a Carmine...

just wondering why there are 2 variations of his surname?? Are there documents for both names? Also, did Saverio have a middle name...??His name is Saverio Barletta or Parletta.

Re: Campenarello
His mothers maiden name was Mazzarella but he did not travel with her. He came with an Uncle. His brothers and parents came a few years later.
one of his brothers came with someone with surname Musto. They are related somehow just don't know how. Family with surname Pepe lived close by in italy and pennsylvania. another brother immigrated with that family and are buried in same Cemetary same section, could be related somehow. I think i have hit a brick wall

Re: Campenarello
Any idea what the name of the uncle was?
Also, could you mention the GIVEN names of the rest of the family... this would help further.... parents, brothers etc... info on their manifests will help with the search.
I don't think this will be an easy manifest to find... as I checked Ellis film - ship records of Nov 1899.
There were ships arriving at that time from Italy to Ellis, but none with the name Floria...in 1899 - according to the Ellis database.
I know the Family History Library has manifests available for research. Maybe they might carry film for this particular voyage...
Thanks for providing more info... something to check!
Here's a manifest of 2 Barletta's and a Musso...(Musto?)

Re: Campenarello
I want to thank you so much for your help, I feel like I have hit a brick wall.
Saverio. born 09/03/1886 according to Petition for Naturalization Came into the port of New York on Nov. 20,1889 onboard the Floria. Left Naples about Nov 10th. This puts him about 13 yrs old. Was told he came with an Uncle but do not have a name. His witnesses for Naturalization were a Ralph A. Pepe and Michael Petrillo. The Pepe family is buried next to the Barletta's so maybe they are related.
Parents of Saverio : Carmine Barletta & Mary Grace Mazzarella.
Immigrated Jan 16,1912 onboard the Berlin, along with son Felice (Philip) Barletta. Ships manifest says Parletta. Felice born 09/12/1897 age 14
Brothers of Saverio:
Giuseppe (Joseph) Barletta immigrated Jan 16,1903 onboard the Patria. Ships manifest says Parletta. Age 13 Born 5/18/1888
Milano Barletta immigrated April 18,1911 onboard the Oceania. Ships manifest says Parletta. Traveled with an Angelo & Angela Musto and a Bernard Centrella. (related somhow) Milano born 02/28/1895 age 16
Milano's witnesses for Naturalization were a William Pepe and a Guiseppe Mazzarella
Petition for naturalization has Barletta as surname and they are signed Barletta. All state born Capannarell, Italy.
I was told that there was also a sister not sure of her name I believe it was Vincentina. Do not have any info on her other that she married a "Musto" and lived in New Jersey. No info on Ellis Island files for her. I looked under Musto , Barletta and Parletta.
Saverio's mom Mary Grace Mazzarella had a brother named Vincent that lived in New Jersey. No other info. on him. Cannot find him in Ellis Island files.
Saverio's paternal Aunt was Jospehina DePasquale was told she might have lived in Boston. Can't find her either anywhere. Husbands name unknown.
I have a dumb question is Campannarell in Pietradefusi???
I know I have written a book sorry! This is everything that I know.
Have a Wonderful Day!!

Re: Campenarello
No, not a dumb question at all... Boy am I glad you asked! I did a further search on this name and found out that Campanarella is now called Venticano 8OI have a dumb question is Campannarell in Pietradefusi???
http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamicheli ... =Venticano
According to the map I linked earlier... it is a 4 minutes drive.... (from Camp. to Piet)
Pietradefusi is a city in Avellino
Venticano (aka Campanarello) is a city in Avellino and easier to spell...
Ain't no Ellis manifests with the city of Venticano on it either... just checked... so the name change may have happened after 1924??
Avellino is a Province in the Region of Campania
Hope I got this right!
Really appreciate the further info... glad to see that you've done all this research too.
Brick walls in ancestral research make it even more exciting...
Don't worry!! We'll find something....
Maybe....
Hopefully
This forum has the best people working together...

Re: Campenarello
You'd probably want to know more about Vincenzo Mazzarella (line 27), so here is a link I created. The link at the Ellis site didn't link... There is another Mazzarella of 1896 age 20... but this Vincenzo seems like the most logical one as there is a Vincenzantonio Pepe (line 24) on board too...Saverio's mom Mary Grace Mazzarella had a brother named Vincent that lived in New Jersey. No other info. on him. Cannot find him in Ellis Island files.

YOU ARE WONDERFUL!!!!!!
You have made my day.
I guess I need to contact the county court in Pa. and find out how the Petition could be wrong. I would have thought they would have checked the documentation. Definetly looks like it is him.
Thank you so very much

Thank you!! You made my day too!
I checked your post today at work when the boss was out on deliveries...
Please let me know what happens when you contact the county court in Pa.
Also, you did provide more info yesterday about other members of your family...
I did find this one manifest with a couple of errors....
First Name: Vincenzo
Last Name: Poarletta
Ethnicity: Italy
Last Place of Residence: Pietradefnoi
Date of Arrival: June 24, 1903
Age at Arrival:  20    Gender:  F    Marital Status:  S ÂÂ
Ship of Travel: Nord America
Port of Departure: Napoli
Manifest Line Number: 0017
It says "Vincenzo" is a female and is domesticated... it happens... clearly a woman... clearly a Barletta from Pietradefusi... off to 132 Stramsville(?), Pittston, PA to join her brother Pasquale.

The name must have changed after 1924 sometime? The Ellis island manifests only go to 1924. Venticano name does not exist on any manifests. Nice to hear from you.
