Does "Santa Angelo Invormese" = Sant'Angelo, Ischia, Naples?

Postby OrangeBlossom44 » 30 Jul 2016, 00:15

My late father's dad, Giuseppe Biondi, died at age 39, when my father had just turned 7. My father's mom, who had 8 children to raise, remarried. Giuseppe (Joseph) Bengivengo's WWII Draft Registration Card says that he was born in "Santa Angelo Invormese" in the province of Naples. Could this be referring to the fishing village of Sant'Angelo on the island of Ischia off the coast of Naples? Or is this some other place? Sant'Angelo in Formis perhaps? But isn't that an abbey? Or a foundling hospital? Google searches don't help. Thank you all for your insight! It is very much appreciated!

Thank you, mmogno. I have been confused. My paternal step-grandfather's statement to the draft board was somewhat contradictory. He said he was from Sant'Angelo Invormese [in Formis], but that the place was in Naples province, which it is not; it is in Caserta province. If we go with the idea that the Sant'Angelo where he was born is in Naples province, then he would be from Sant'Angelo, isola di Ischia. Since my paternal step-grandfather was pretty specific in naming "in Formis," I'll go with your good suggestion.

Mmogno, do you know whether there are any online records for Sant'Angelo in Formis, Capua, Caserta? A quick check I made last night didn't show anything for that hamlet.

Thank you once again.
