Fallascoso, Italy to Ellis Island

Postby diginto » 21 Aug 2007, 01:25

My great-grandfather, Mariano Francione came to America from Fallascoso, Italy in approximately 1900. I cannot find the exact date from the ship manifests on the Ellis Island Website. Can you help?

I am also looking for the date that my grandmother Maria DiTollo Francione came to New York with her 4 year old daughter, Anna. I'm not able to find them on the Ellis Island Website or Castle Garden.

Yes, Mariano had a son Camillo. I am aware of the two times that Camillo came to America, but I think that you have solved the Mariano Francione mystery.

Thank you for all your help.

Any luck on my grandmother Maria & daughter Anna DiTollo? The year should have been about 1911.

That's good news on Mariano!

Who would Maria & Anna have been joining in the US?

Thanks! Valarie

Valerie,

Maria DiTollo Francione and daughter Anna DiTollo Francione would be joining Maria's husband, Camillo Francione in Philadelphia, (Wayne) PA

Maria came on a ship with daughter Anna and a young 16 year old friend from Fallascoso, Italy named Nicola DiOrio (DiIorio) if that helps.

Thanks.

Yes, that is my grandmother. Thank you so much for all of the information that you have provided. I may have one more family member for you to find if that is O.K.

O. K. Valerie, here's one more:

Mariano DiTollo, Born: November 21, 1847. He left Fallascoso Italy in about 1890. I can't find a Ship Manifest.

Also, he went back to Italy in about 1913. Would there be a record of this also?

Valerie,

Oops! I made a mistake. Mariano DiTollo came to Phila. around 1885 not 1890.

Mariano DiTollo,
Born: November 21, 1847. He left Fallascoso Italy...
came to Phila. around 1885...
I can't find a Ship Manifest.

Not having any luck at all on Mariano DiTollo...

Also, he went back to Italy in about 1913.
Would there be a record of this also?

There aren't any return manifests that I know of
---

What other record do you have of Mariano in the US?
There may be a clue?

Sorry this one isn't working out (yet)!

Hi Val,

Here are some clues:

His two sons:

Rinaldo DiTollo - Feb. 18, 1902 Ship Kaiserin Maria Theresia
Giuseppe DiTollo - Feb. 18, 1902 Ship Kaiserin Maria Theresia

Rinaldo DiTollo - March 15, 1905 Ship Neckar Line No. 0027 - 2nd Time

My grandmother, Maria DiTollo said that she was 5 mos. old (1886) when her father left the family. I assume he came to America then.

At some point while he was in America, he lived in Scranton, PA

If their is a different first name that matches this criteria, it could be that I was given a wrong first name.

Valerie,

Mariano left his family in 1886, but maybe he didn't come to America then.

I do know that if he was born in 1847, 66 years later he visited my grandmother in Wayne, PA. That would have been about 1913. (The same year Maria DiTollo, his daughter came to America (See Above)

I believe Mariano had two brothers, Antonio and Matteo, but I don't believe they ever came to America.

"If there is a different first name that matches this criteria,
it could be that I was given a wrong first name."

No luck again.
Since the transcribed birth record
for Mariano DiTollo on this outstanding
site for Fallascoso matches your information, a
search on ancestry.com was pretty simple:

all records, advanced search, exact
- first name Mariano, no last name
- born 1847+/- 2yrs in Italy

Also checked all the manifests
on the Fallascoso site. Quite a few for your
family, but no Mariano DiTollo.

Do you have all of his children's census records in the US?
Is there a chance he was staying with/near one of them?

Thanks! Valarie
