Norwegian Genealogy

Postby pegusus1198 » 07 Jan 2009, 17:24

Can anybody guide me on how to get more information on:

Edvard A. Qvale b. 15 Aug 1855 in Norway d. 13 Oct 1922 in Norway and his wife (?)
Anna Absjornsdatter b. 29 Jan 1861 in Norway d. 31 Dec 1938 in Norway

I am not familiar with working on information pertaining to Norway. Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately I didn't have too much luck with it for this end of my family. :(

Hi Pegusus,

My FHC has films on perm. loan there for Norway. I looked at my list and found this.........

Kirkebøker, 1720-1924 Den Norske kirke. Førde prestegjeld (Sogn og Fjordane)
Norway, Sogn og Fjordane, Førde - Church records
Norway, Sogn og Fjordane, Naustdal - Church records 126391 1

I'm not familiar with the language but I'm assuming these are towns in Norway. Do either of these names look familiar? If so, I can try and look for Edvard and Anna for you the next time I go to my center.

Good luck in your research.

Elizabeth

They both died in Kvinesdal in the Fede Parish, but i'm not sure where they were born. I know Kvinesdal is in Vest-Adger (not sure if the spelling is correct). I was able to find this out at www.disnorge.no

I'm not sure where this all is in comparision to the towns you have available. :)

Hi Pegusus,

Sorry to say but I sure don't know where any of these places are. The link you provided looks very interesting.

I looked at the FHC films and based on you knowing Kvinesdal Vest Agder they do have films that are available.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... umns=*,0,0

If you select church records those films cover 1710-1916. Click that link and when the page comes up go to the upper right hand corner and select "view film notes" and all the films will come up. Looks like you can order the film(s) for their birth years.

If you have any questions let us know. And good luck in your research.

Pegusus1198, if you haven't already found a resource, the 1875 and 1900 Norwegian census transcriptions are available online at the Digital Archives - Arkivverket Digitalarkivet.

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/We ... r&spraak=e

It can be tricky getting the surname spelling right. Happy hunting.
